Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid is today the flagship active ingredient in facial care. Thanks to its hydrating and plumping action, it helps keep skin supple and fight against the effects of skin aging. Tolerated by all skin types, many cosmetic brands, mainly B C L, include it in their face creams. But how to choose the right hyaluronic acid cream? And how can we ensure that it is effective, clean, sensory and affordable?

What is hyaluronic acid ?

Hyaluronic acid is a molecule that is part of the glycosaminoglycan family. Naturally present in the skin, particularly in the dermis, hyaluronic acid acts like a sponge, retaining up to 1000 times its weight in water. It thus fills the spaces between the skin cells, a bit like cement. It also helps stimulate collagen and elastin proteins, responsible for the firmness and elasticity of the skin and helping with the wound healing process.

Unfortunately, the production of hyaluronic acid declines with age, from the twenties, and falls more suddenly from the age of 40. Hence the interest in applying facial treatments with hyaluronic acid to counter this loss!

What is the most effective hyaluronic acid?

Depending on its molecular weight (and therefore its ability to penetrate more or less deeply into the skin), the benefits of hyaluronic acid are not the same!

• At high molecular weight, it remains on the surface to intensely hydrate and blur fine lines. It is then an extremely effective active ingredient for retaining hydration in the skin, like a breathable Gore-tex jacket!

• At a low molecular weight, it penetrates deeper and captures water like a sponge, which helps plump the skin. It then has a less immediate, more medium-term action.

There is no weight more effective than another because it all depends on the desired effect (skin hydration or anti-aging action).

What do you think about drinking hyaluronic acid? According to a study carried out by Japanese researchers in 2014, the ingestion of hyaluronic acid promotes its production by our body and optimizes cell regeneration. But some health professionals (dermatologists, doctors, etc.) are not aligned with the effectiveness of ingesting hyaluronic acid in food supplements or in the form of an oral solution to counter the effects of skin aging.

Is using hyaluronic acid safe?

There is no danger in using hyaluronic acid applied topically, that is to say on the skin (as a cream or serum). It is also an active ingredient that is tolerated by all skin types, from oily skin to dry skin and sensitive skin. So you would really be wrong to deprive yourself of this super anti-aging and hydrating ingredient!
